Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)
How SIP Construction Works
Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are factory-made wall and roof panels: a thick core of rigid foam insulation bonded between two structural skins, usually oriented strand board (OSB). The panels arrive cut to the home’s design and are joined on site, replacing traditional stud framing, sheathing and insulation in one step.
Benefits of SIP Homes in Florida
- Energy efficiency — continuous insulation and fewer gaps mean a tight building envelope and lower cooling bills in Florida’s heat and humidity.
- Faster builds — panels go up quickly, shortening the time the home is open to weather.
- Strength — engineered panels act as a structural system and can be designed to Florida Building Code wind loads.
- Less jobsite waste — panels are cut to size in the factory.
- Quiet, comfortable interiors — solid insulated walls reduce outside noise and temperature swings.
Where We Use SIPs
SIPs are a great fit for our tiny homes, ADUs, additions and custom homes, especially when speed and energy performance matter most. For maximum impact and flood resistance, we may recommend ICF or 3D-printed concrete instead, or a combination: concrete walls with a SIP roof.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are SIP homes hurricane-resistant?
When engineered and installed to Florida Building Code, SIP homes are designed for the required wind loads for their location. We’ll recommend the right system for your site’s wind and flood exposure.
Do SIPs cost more than wood framing?
Panel costs can be higher, but faster installation and lower long-term energy bills often offset the difference.
How do SIPs handle Florida humidity?
Proper detailing, flashing, ventilation and HVAC sizing are critical. A tight SIP envelope needs right-sized, dehumidifying HVAC. We design for it.
Can I build an ADU with SIPs?
Yes. Our 1/1 ADU is a SIP design.
