On Fort Myers Beach, “hurricane-safe” isn’t a marketing term. It’s the difference between a home that’s still standing after the next storm and one that isn’t. Miniopolis LLC designs and builds homes on Estero Island that resist wind, surge and water. We combine concrete construction, proper elevation and impact-rated openings.
What Makes a Home Hurricane-Resistant
- Elevation. Living space above the required flood elevation keeps storm surge out of the home. On much of the island, that means building on pilings or elevated foundations.
- Concrete walls. Insulated concrete form and 3D-printed concrete walls are far stronger than wood framing against wind and flying debris. They also won’t rot after water exposure.
- A continuous load path. The roof, walls and foundation are tied together with engineered connections, so uplift forces have somewhere to go.
- Impact windows and doors. Rated openings keep wind and rain out of the building envelope, where most interior damage starts.
- Flood-resistant materials below the flood line. Breakaway walls and materials built to get wet and dry out.
- Roof design. Secondary water barriers, upgraded fastening and roof shapes that shed wind.
Built to Current Florida Code and Then Some
The Florida Building Code is one of the strictest in the country for wind. Coastal flood-zone rules add requirements on top of that. We meet them on every project, and we offer upgrades beyond code minimums for owners who want extra protection. Ask us about each option and its cost.
Lower Operating Costs, Too
The same concrete and insulated walls that protect against storms also cut cooling bills. Some owners also see insurance benefits from wind-mitigation features. Ask your insurance agent which credits apply to your policy.
Hurricane-Safe Homes FAQ
Can a 3D-printed or ICF home survive a major hurricane?
No home is storm-proof. But concrete homes that are properly elevated and engineered hold up far better against wind and water than conventional frame homes.
Do you rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Ian?
Yes. See Restore My Fort Myers Beach House and hurricane damage recovery.
Do you build hurricane-resistant homes off the island?
Yes. We build the same way in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Naples and across Florida south of Ocala.
